I’ve been busy with med school for the past few months, needless to say they felt like eternity. I’ll make a little confession and say I’ve been short of ideas for my blog. Kinda like, ‘the ink of my imagination has dried up’, and the very basic element of writing anything is imagination, be it fiction or nonfiction.
Anyway, moving back to my post for today. ‘Existence’ and ‘Non-Existence’, what are they and how do they truly matter. You may be thinking, right, existence or nonexistence of what? The answer is, ‘yours’.
No, seriously. Think about it. We are human beings. We are social animals. We socialize, make friends, love people, like people, hate people, and if ‘hate’ is too strong a word, dislike people. That’s simply how we roll. Imagine living in the world all alone, with no one around, all the shopping stores and banks open to you, but without another soul walking by, how would you feel?
Therefore, we are social animals. We need people around us to feel complete. That is a universally accepted fact, but there’s one little secret to it we’re afraid to talk about. And that secret is ‘your being or not being might not make as much of a difference‘. You don’t know if you’ll be alive tomorrow, right? Now imagine you’ve died. Your parents, your family, your friends, your teachers, they all feel sad, but for how long?
Their lives will continue the usual way.. Sure they’ll gather around and mourn your death once or twice or about twelve times a year, but would it change how they live? Would it change how many times they eat, or sleep, or drink? It wouldn’t.
That is your importance. This is not some sadistic post, nor do I intend to bring you down, but truth be told, your life is most important to you alone.
The essence of what I’m trying to convey here is, it’s your life, you are the one taking control of it for most of the part, you are the one responsible for the big and the small decisions and you are the one bearing consequences of them in this life, and the next. Make sure you know what you’re doing, and you know what you’re doing is right. Make sure what you’re doing is not harming anyone or hurting them. Make sure you know you’re just a piece of molded mud, that will mix back with raw mud in less than a century. That is what you are. If anything, know you’re invisible and you’ll remain that way, unless you’ve done good, left a mark that can form your identity. You won’t need branded shoes, perfumes, bags or clothes once you’re out and about from this world. You won’t exist anymore, almost like you never really existed. Three generations forward, nobody even remembers you or your name!
You never existed unless…
